Halloween - Vintage Photo Friday

Happy Halloween!

Tonight's the night for trick or treaters, costumes, pumpkins and candy.  Be careful out there, my friends.
We celebrated Halloween last night at the West Hollywood Stitch 'n Bitch.  We call this party our Spooktacular.  This year's theme was TV character.  We had prizes in three categories, Best Overall Costume, Best Use of Yarn in your costume and Best Theme (TV) costume.  To see the photos from our party, click here.
For your amusement, I combed the L.A. Public Library Photo Archives for a few  vintage Halloween photos!

1960.  Herald Examiner.

Above, from the LAPL website: Shriners, in costume, pose for a group photo in front of the Ritz-Flower Hotel, at 813 S. Flower Street, Los Angeles. Those not wearing a gas mask are pinching their noses. One member holds a small "Smog Detail" sign. All wear a fez denoting their temple and rank which include: patrol, adjutant, 2nd lieutenant and captain. Photo caption reads: "Members of Aahmes Temple of Oakland had heard there was such a thing as smog in Los Angeles - and so, they formed a special detail, wearing gas masks, ready for any emergency, while attending the convention". Photo dated: June 21, 1960.
